Meet Chris at St Mary’s
At St Mary’s Church, we believe in making a difference far beyond our church walls. That’s why we’re proud to support Edukid, a charity working to bring hope and opportunity through education for children living in poverty.
This Sunday at our 9:30 am Celtic service, we’ll be joined by Chris from Edukid. He’ll be sharing more about their inspiring work — both here in Bideford and around the world — and how education is transforming lives.
It’s also an excellent opportunity to chat with Chris directly after the service if you’d like to hear more, ask questions, or find out how you can get involved.
What is Edukid?
Edukid helps children in Uganda, Cambodia and Peru by:
- Ensuring access to education for those who might otherwise be left behind.
- Supporting inclusive education so that all children can learn together, regardless of abilities or background.
- Promoting gender equality, sustainable livelihoods, food & nutrition, clean water & sanitation, and emergency responses.
- Empowering children’s voices — listening to their challenges, needs, and dreams.
How St Mary’s is involved
We work with Edukid in various ways:
- Raising awareness among our congregation about the global educational needs and poverty.
- Fundraising through events, special collections, and opportunities to give.
- Praying for the children, the communities, and the work Edukid is doing so that they can flourish.
- Sometimes, bringing their stories to our services/newsletters so more people know about how they can help.
Why it matters
Education changes lives — a child who can go to school is more likely to escape cycles of poverty, to have health, opportunity, and hope. By supporting Edukid, we are living out our faith in action: loving our neighbour, near and far.
How you can help
- Consider joining one of our fundraising events.
- Support Edukid directly through donations.
- Share their stories (on church notices, socials) so others can learn more.
- Pray for ongoing projects in Uganda, Cambodia, and Peru.
